Atom Computing is a US neutral-atom quantum computing company based in Boulder, Colorado and Berkeley, California. In November 2024 it demonstrated 24 logical qubits entangled using Microsoft's Bacon-Shor error correction, the largest logical qubit entanglement on record at the time. The same demonstration also featured 28 logical qubits running the Bernstein-Vazirani algorithm with accuracy superior to unencoded physical qubits, the first demonstration of active QEC advantage on a commercial neutral-atom platform.

The company operates a reconfigurable atom array of more than 1,200 physical qubits and partners with Microsoft Azure Quantum, integrating its system into the Azure Quantum Elements platform for chemistry and materials research. Atom Computing was recognized as Fast Company's number 10 Most Innovative Company in 2025.

In January 2026, QuEra published in Nature (doi:10.1038/s41586-025-09848-5) a result of 96 logical qubits from 448 physical atoms using high-rate [[16,6,4]] codes, achieving below-threshold error suppression, a critical milestone for fault-tolerant quantum computing. The company currently operates 37 logical qubits at AIST Japan and has demonstrated continuous 2-hour operation with 3,000 physical qubits. It is targeting 100 logical qubits with 10,000 physical qubits in 2026 to 2027.

QuEra raised $230M in 2025, led by Google Quantum AI and SoftBank Vision Fund 2, following a prior $47M round in October 2024, bringing total funding above $507M. Investors also include NVentures. QuEra was selected for DARPA QBI Stage B in November 2025 and partners with the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center. In February 2026 it announced a $4M partnership with Roadrunner Venture Studios for a quantum testbed in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

QuEra demonstrated the first logical magic state distillation and achieved transversal algorithmic fault tolerance with Harvard and Yale, enabling algorithm execution 10 to 100 times faster. In March 2026 it integrated with NVIDIA's NVQLink architecture for higher logical cycle speed and QEC throughput. The company open-sourced Tsim, a GPU-accelerated neutral-atom simulator that supports circuits of more than 80 physical qubits with millions of samples in parallel on NVIDIA GH200 hardware, demonstrating 85-qubit simulation in about 600ns. Infleqtion (NYSE: INFQ) is the first publicly listed neutral-atom quantum technology company. Formerly ColdQuanta, it builds neutral-atom quantum computers, quantum sensors, and quantum networking hardware. On February 17, 2026, it completed its SPAC merger with Churchill Capital Corp X and listed on the NYSE at a valuation of about $1.8B with more than $550M in gross proceeds.

Infleqtion's Sqale platform holds 1,600 physical qubits, and its Sqorpius system targets fault-tolerant quantum computing. The company claimed 12 logical qubits via post-selection in 2025. In December 2025, it demonstrated 99.73% two-qubit gate fidelity on the Sqale neutral-atom platform alongside 114-qubit in-place entanglement, the largest UK neutral-atom array. The company's Tiqker atomic clock technology earned an $11M US Department of Defense contract in April 2026 for GPS-denied navigation and drone protection applications. Infleqtion delivered a Tiqker optical atomic clock to the University of Strathclyde, its first UK commercial sale, and a rack-mounted Tiqker Prime system is available for pre-order, aimed at data centers. On the Quantum Corridor, a 21.8km route, Tiqker achieved a 40x improvement in timing precision over GPS. It reported first-quarter 2026 revenue of $64.7M and raised full-year 2026 guidance to $260-270M, and it holds $3.3B in cash. IonQ builds trapped-ion quantum computers with 64 algorithmic qubits and 99.9% two-qubit gate fidelity, the highest published 2Q fidelity alongside Silicon Quantum Computing at 99.99%.

IonQ is developing 256-qubit trapped-ion systems for delivery in 2026, with Horizon Quantum as the first customer for a 256-qubit machine. In October 2025 it demonstrated 99.99% two-qubit gate fidelity on R&D prototypes built with barium ions and Electronic Qubit Control, microchip-based precision electronics from the Oxford Ionics acquisition that replace conventional laser optics. These prototypes underpin the planned 256-qubit systems. IonQ has been active in acquisitions. Rigetti Computing (Nasdaq: RGTI) is a US-based superconducting quantum computing company. In April 2026, it became the first to deliver a 108-qubit general availability system through its Cepheus-1-108Q processor. The system is available on Amazon Braket, where it is the first device exceeding 100 qubits, and on Rigetti Quantum Cloud Services, delivering 99.1% median 2Q gate fidelity and 99.9% median 1Q gate fidelity. The company reported 7.1 million dollars in 2025 revenue and 4.4 million dollars in first-quarter 2026 revenue, with 569 million dollars in cash as of March 2026, and it is targeting 99.5% 2Q gate fidelity in 2026.

In February 2026, Rigetti received an 8.4 million dollar purchase order from C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) India for an on-premises 108-qubit system, with installation in Bengaluru planned for the second half of 2026. In March 2026, Rigetti announced plans to invest up to 100 million dollars in the UK, deploying a quantum computer with over 1,000 qubits within three to four years, its first major investment outside the US. In September 2025, Rigetti and QphoX were awarded a 5.8 million dollar three-year contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to develop microwave-to-optical quantum transduction at AFRL's facility in Rome, NY. Rigetti's roadmap targets more than 150 qubits at 99.7% fidelity by late 2026 and over 1,000 qubits by the end of 2027.

Google Quantum AI operates two complementary quantum hardware platforms.

The first is its superconducting platform, built around Willow, a 105-qubit processor released in December 2024 and Google's flagship. Willow achieved the first below-threshold quantum error correction using the surface code, demonstrating 1 logical qubit and 99.88% two-qubit gate fidelity. It solved a benchmark problem in 5 minutes that would take a classical supercomputer 10 septillion years. Google targets fault-tolerant quantum computing by roughly 2029.

The second is a neutral-atom platform announced in March 2026. Professor Adam Kaufman of JILA and CU Boulder leads a new team in Boulder, Colorado developing neutral-atom quantum computing across three areas: quantum error correction for atomic arrays, modeling and simulation, and experimental hardware. Neutral atoms offer near-unlimited scaling of qubit count, complementing Willow's strengths in circuit depth and gate speed. Google's dual-modality strategy is one of the first by a major quantum hardware company.

Google has also produced a series of research results. In October 2025 it published the Quantum Echoes algorithm in Nature, demonstrating the first verifiable quantum advantage on actual hardware, running 13,000 times faster than the best classical algorithm on the out-of-time-order correlator problem on Willow, with implications for drug discovery through molecular behavior modeling. In 2025, Google achieved 99.99% magic state fidelity, a 40-fold improvement that reduces the overhead for fault-tolerant computation. IBM Quantum is one of the largest quantum computing companies and operates the most extensive cloud-accessible quantum computing fleet. Flagship systems include Condor, a 1,121-qubit scale demonstration released in December 2023, and Heron R2, a 156-qubit operational flagship with 3 to 5 times better errors released in December 2024.

IBM's hardware roadmap stretches across the decade. The 2026 plan centers on the Kookaburra processor, the first to integrate qLDPC quantum memory with a Logical Processing Unit, targeting 7,500 gates on up to 360 qubits. The experimental IBM Quantum Loon processor has demonstrated all the key components of fault-tolerant computing. In November 2025, IBM released the Nighthawk processor with 120 qubits and 218 tunable couplers, and claims its LDPC codes require 90% fewer qubits than Google's surface code. The 2029 roadmap targets the Starling system with 200 logical qubits and 100 million quantum operations, and the 2033 target is Blue Jay with 2,000 logical qubits and 1 billion quantum operations.

On the software side, Qiskit v2.2 delivers circuit transpilation 83 times faster than TKet 2.6.0, and the Samplomatic package reduces probabilistic error cancellation overhead by 100 times. In January 2026, IBM released Qiskit v2.3 with an expanded C API for HPC integration, custom transpiler passes, and VF2Layout upgrades. Bleximo is a Berkeley-based quantum computing startup founded in 2017 that develops application-specific quantum accelerators using superconducting qubits. Its co-design methodology tailors quantum processors, control hardware, and algorithms together to solve specific high-value problems.

In December 2022, Bleximo announced an expansion to the Albany Nanotech Complex in New York State. In December 2025, the company was profiled in the QUBIT Semiconductor Market Research Report alongside IBM, Xanadu, and Atom Computing. PsiQuantum is building the first utility-scale fault-tolerant quantum computer using photonic qubits manufactured in standard silicon fabs. It is based in Palo Alto, California, and uses GlobalFoundries for photonic chip manufacturing, targeting millions of qubits at scale. Victor Peng, the former Xilinx CEO and AMD President, became Interim CEO on February 10, 2026, with co-founder Jeremy O'Brien moving to Executive Chairman.

PsiQuantum has raised more than $3B in total, including a $1B Series E at a $7B valuation in 2025. It partnered with the Australian government for a A$620M facility in Brisbane and is developing a US site in Chicago. Its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Brisbane expanded in 2025 with a new Test and Characterization lab at Griffith University, and Linde Engineering was contracted to deliver the cryogenic plant for the utility-scale quantum computer in Queensland, targeting operational deployment by the end of 2027. The company broke ground on the largest quantum computing facility in the Americas in Chicago, Illinois, and advanced to DARPA QBI Stage C, the most advanced stage.

In September 2025, PsiQuantum launched Construct, a software platform for fault-tolerant quantum algorithm design that maps algorithms onto surface-code error correction and routes qubits across photonic chips using an Active Volume Architecture, reducing factoring operational costs roughly 50-fold compared with conventional approaches. SEEQC is a US-UK quantum computing company building energy-efficient superconducting quantum computers. It uses Single Flux Quantum (SFQ) digital logic for on-chip control, which eliminates the large cable bundles that limit conventional superconducting systems by bringing classical electronics into the cryostat. Founded in 2019, SEEQC targets data-center deployments with 64 or more qubits and systems that scale without cable bottlenecks. It is based in Elmsford, New York and London, UK, and also operates a major R&D and operations centre in Naples, Italy, where it demonstrated System Red, Italy's first complete SEEQC quantum computer.

SEEQC has raised more than $125M, with backing from Merck, Samsung, and Leonardo, including a $30M Series A extension in January 2025. In January 2026, the company announced a merger agreement with Allegro Merger Corp at a $1B valuation.

SEEQC is a confirmed DARPA QBI participant, working with IBM to integrate its SFQ chip-based control layer with IBM's quantum systems for scalable fault-tolerant computing. In March 2026, SEEQC published a Nature Electronics paper demonstrating the first quantum computer with integrated on-chip SFQ qubit control, a 5-qubit processor that uses digital multiplexing to eliminate dedicated control lines per qubit, the first quantum computer with fully integrated on-chip qubit control at millikelvin temperatures. Microsoft Quantum is Microsoft's quantum computing division. It is pursuing a topological qubit approach using Majorana zero modes, aiming to build fault-tolerant quantum computers with error rates fundamentally lower than conventional qubit technologies. Microsoft operates Azure Quantum, a cloud platform providing access to hardware from IonQ, Quantinuum, and Rigetti alongside quantum-inspired optimization and quantum development tools.

Microsoft's Station Q research lab at the University of California Santa Barbara, led by theorist Michael Freedman, has developed topological quantum computing theory for more than two decades. A new quantum research lab in Lyngby, Denmark received more than $140M in investment.

In February 2025, Microsoft announced the Majorana 1 chip, the first quantum processor powered by a topological core. The chip uses a new material called a topoconductor, an indium arsenide-aluminium heterostructure, to create Majorana zero modes, which Microsoft says are intrinsically more stable than conventional qubits. The announcement generated significant debate in the quantum community. Microsoft demonstrated fermion parity measurements consistent with topological behaviour, but the demonstration does not yet constitute verified logical qubit operation through error-corrected computation, which requires full topological qubit gates and quantum error correction. In July 2025, Microsoft announced the Majorana 1 chip as the first hardware implementation of a tetron qubit device using Majorana zero modes, published in peer-reviewed form. Per verification rules, topological qubits require demonstrated error-corrected computation, and Majorana 1 does not yet meet this threshold as of April 2026.

Amazon Braket is AWS's managed quantum computing service, which provides access to multiple quantum hardware providers. During 2024 and 2025, Braket expanded significantly through partnerships and hardware additions.

NVIDIA and AWS announced a collaboration to advance quantum computing research by integrating NVIDIA's quantum-classical computing platform, NVIDIA CUDA-Q, with Amazon Braket, allowing researchers to use hybrid quantum-classical workflows. IQM Quantum Computers made its 20-qubit quantum processing unit, IQM Garnet, available through Amazon Braket in the AWS Europe (Stockholm) Region, the first quantum processing unit available to AWS customers within the European Union in a self-service, on-demand model. IonQ continued its collaboration with AWS, making its Forte system, which delivers 36 algorithmic qubits, available on Amazon Braket. Braket also provides access to QuEra's 256-qubit Aquila neutral atom system and supported the AQC25 conference, which brought together stakeholders from MIT, Yale, USC, Google Quantum AI, and others.

In February 2025, AWS unveiled Ocelot, a research prototype superconducting chip using 5 cat qubits, built from tantalum oscillators, plus error-detection circuits, with AWS claiming up to a 90% reduction in physical qubit overhead versus transmon approaches. Intel Quantum is Intel's quantum computing programme, which develops spin qubits made with the company's CMOS-industry manufacturing processes. In January 2026, Intel and Argonne National Laboratory deployed the 12-qubit Tunnel Falls quantum dot processor, a milestone published in Nature Communications that demonstrated CMOS-compatible quantum computing.

In 2024, Intel's spin qubits achieved 99.9% gate fidelity, the highest reported for qubits made with all-CMOS-industry manufacturing, in research published in Nature under the title 'Probing single electrons across 300-mm spin qubit wafers.' On December 25, 2024, Intel published research on '12-Spin-Qubit Arrays Fabricated on a 300 mm Semiconductor Manufacturing Line' in Nano Letters. The Tunnel Falls device described there consists of 12 quantum dots arranged in a linear array, the largest number of qubits reported in a single Si/SiGe device to date.

Intel researchers used a 300-millimeter cryogenic probing process, CMOS manufacturing techniques, and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography to achieve tight dimensions while manufacturing in high volume. The small size of Intel's spin qubits, roughly 100 nanometers across, makes them denser than other qubit types such as superconducting qubits, which allows more complex quantum computers to be built on a single chip. Intel plans to demonstrate high-fidelity two-qubit gates on its industry manufacturing process and to develop 2D arrays with higher qubit count and connectivity.
