QuiX Quantum is a Dutch photonic quantum computing company based in Enschede, Netherlands. It builds the world's largest commercially available photonic quantum processors, based on silicon nitride integrated photonics. The company was founded in 2019 out of the University of Twente.

QuiX has raised more than 20 million euros. Its 20-mode photonic processor is available via cloud access and on-premises, with a 50-mode system in development. Its passive linear optical network supports sampling and optimization algorithms. Partners include TNO, Thales, and European research institutions, and QuiX is named in the EU Chips Act P4Q photonic pilot line under Quantum Delta NL.

In July 2025, QuiX raised 15 million euros in Series A funding led by Invest-NL and the EIC Fund, with co-investors PhotonVentures, Oost NL, and FORWARD.one. The round targets the world's first single-photon universal quantum computer by 2026, with a projected 64x increase in processing power over existing photonic processors and an error-correction system planned for 2027. QuiX Quantum

Groove Quantum is a QuTech spinout launched in 2024 tackling the qubit scalability challenge with its unique germanium-based quantum technology. The company develops germanium quantum dots as a platform for quantum computing that offers advantages in terms of manufacturability, scalability, and integration with existing semiconductor processes. Groove Quantum's approach enables quantum processors to be fabricated using standard CMOS-compatible processes. In April 2026, Groove Quantum raised EUR 16M in seed funding, combining EUR 10M of equity co-led by Innovation Industries and 55 North with EUR 6M in grants from the EIC Accelerator and EU Chips Act. Groove Quantum

QuTech is a quantum research institute established as a collaboration between Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). Founded in 2014, it conducts research across the full quantum technology stack, from fundamental quantum physics to practical quantum applications.

QuTech has contributed to quantum computing, the quantum internet, and quantum sensing, with demonstrations of quantum teleportation, quantum error correction, and the development of silicon-based spin qubits. Qblox is a Dutch quantum control hardware company founded in 2019 as a QuTech spinoff. It develops Cluster modular control stacks, which are hardware-agnostic and support thousands of qubits across multiple qubit types. The company raised a $26M Series A led by Quantonation and Invest-NL Deep Tech and has 146 employees.

In February 2025, joint research with QphoX and Rigetti was published in Nature Physics, demonstrating superconducting qubit readout using an optical transducer. In October 2025, Qblox joined the NVIDIA NVQLink program, connecting its Q1 pulse processors to NVIDIA GPUs for low-latency quantum error correction workloads, with deployment confirmed at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. In November 2025 it partnered with QuantWare and Q-CTRL to launch the Quantum Utility Block (QUB), a pre-integrated superconducting system.

Also in November 2025, the DOE announced a partnership with Fermilab to coordinate manufacturing and distribution of the QICK (Quantum Instrumentation Control Kit) open-source platform, and Qblox was selected for DARPA QBI alongside Keysight, Quantum Machines, and Zurich Instruments. Qblox

QuantWare is a superconducting quantum computing company, a TU Delft and QuTech spinout founded in 2020 by Dr. Alessandro Bruno and Matthijs Rijlaarsdam. It became the first company to commercially manufacture superconducting quantum processors for third parties, offering off-the-shelf QPUs such as the 5-qubit Soprano and the 25-qubit Contralto. Its foundry services let customers build full-stack quantum computers at one-tenth the cost of competing solutions, and total funding exceeds $230 million.

In March 2025, QuantWare raised $20M in Series A funding, co-led by the Invest-NL Deep Tech Fund and Innovation Quarter, with participation from the EIC Fund and FORWARD.one, to accelerate its VIO technology. VIO routes connections vertically in 3D to solve scaling bottlenecks, with the goal of superconducting processors that scale to thousands of qubits and potentially millions in a single processor. The Series A was later extended to $27M, and in May 2026 QuantWare raised a $178M Series B led by Intel Capital, the largest private round raised by a dedicated quantum processor company. In September 2025, QuantWare and C-DAC signed a Letter of Intent to co-develop hybrid quantum computing technologies. Q*bird is a spin-off from Delft University of Technology that develops quantum-based hardware and software for ultra-secure data communications and protection of critical infrastructure.

The company has deployed multi-user, multipoint-to-multipoint Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) networks, including operational installations in Utrecht that connect data centers, university buildings, and research facilities, and the world's first quantum-safe industrial internet at the Port of Rotterdam. Q*bird is the world's only commercial provider of Measurement-Device-Independent QKD (MDI-QKD), which closes loopholes in detection-side attacks.

Q*bird won the Dutch IT Channel Award 2025 in the Networking & Edge Innovator category and received €1 million in subsidies to advance its QKD technology. Its partnership with Eurofiber integrates quantum security into commercial networks, and the company aims to operate 60 quantum networks across Europe, Asia, and North America by 2030. Aluvia Photonics is a provider of photonic integrated circuits based on a proprietary aluminium oxide (AlOx/Al2O3) material platform, founded in 2022 as a University of Twente spin-off. The technology was developed over more than a decade at the University of Twente by cofounder Prof. Sonia Garcia Blanco and her research team.

Aluvia's AlOx platform offers a broad spectral range from 200 nm to mid-IR (around 3 µm), covering UV, visible, and infrared applications. It delivers ultra-low propagation losses, as low as roughly 1 dB/cm at 369 nm and 5 dB/m at 1550 nm, and on-chip optical amplification through rare-earth ion doping with Er3+, Yb3+, Nd3+, and Tm3+. Built on 200mm CMOS-compatible materials, the platform works with established manufacturing infrastructure for cost-effective scalability. Applications include quantum computing (ion traps), advanced telecommunications, sensing, optical amplifiers, O-band switches, and biomedical fields. Aluvia provides turnkey solutions including multi-project wafers, dedicated runs, and custom process development. In October 2025, Aluvia secured investment from PhotonDelta, and it has run a joint evaluation programme with Nokia Bell Labs on erbium-doped waveguide amplifiers for next-generation coherent communications.

Delft Circuits is a Dutch quantum technology company founded in 2017 as a QuTech spinout. It manufactures high-performance cryogenic quantum cables and interconnects for quantum computing systems. Its core product, Cri/oFlex cabling, provides low-noise, high-fidelity signal transmission that enables precise control and readout of qubits inside dilution refrigerators, maintaining signal integrity at the millikelvin temperatures that superconducting quantum processors require.

In December 2025, the company appointed Martin Danoesastro as CEO and secured an 8 million euro Series A extension, bringing total funding to 15 million euros. The investment supports product innovation and expanded manufacturing capacity for Cri/oFlex cabling.

In October 2025, Bluefors, the world's leading dilution refrigerator maker, integrated CrioFlex into its XLDsl platforms, enabling 1,536 input and control lines per system, a 50% increase in side-loading port capacity. In April 2024, QuTech and Eurofiber ran quantum cryptography on existing fiber in an open testbed, demonstrating practical QKD deployment on operational telecommunications infrastructure. In October 2024, Eurofiber worked with Q*Bird to integrate QKD technology into its fiber optic network, connecting quantum communication networks in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Single Quantum is a European maker of Superconducting Nanowire Single Photon Detectors (SNSPDs), founded in 2012 as a spin-off from TU Delft. Its flagship Eos system achieves over 90% detection efficiency, timing resolution below 15 picoseconds, count rates above 80 MHz, and dark count rates below 10 Hz. The company has installed photon detector systems across the United States, Europe, Canada, the UK, Japan, China, Australia, Israel, and South America, with SNSPDs now in more than 250 research laboratories worldwide.

Its detectors support quantum key distribution, quantum computing readout, and quantum sensing applications that need the highest single-photon detection performance. In 2024 the company partnered with Toshiba to extend QKD range beyond 300km, and in a demonstration with Toshiba Europe, Single Quantum SNSPDs enabled QKD transmission over 300 km of optical fiber.

In 2025, Single Quantum partnered with CERN's Quantum Technology Initiative and Qunnect for quantum networking experiments, with CERN integrating the detectors with White Rabbit time-synchronization technology to achieve sub-nanosecond alignment of distant nodes. Single Quantum

LioniX International is a Netherlands-based global provider of customized microsystem solutions, specializing in photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and MEMS technologies. Originally founded as Lion Photonics in 2001 by Hans van De Vlekkert and Rene Heideman, the company grew through the 2016 merger of three Dutch start-ups: Satrax BV, XiO Photonics BV, and LioniX BV.

Based in Enschede, Netherlands, LioniX has developed the TriPleX silicon nitride waveguide technology platform, which enables applications ranging from AR/VR, biosensing, and telecom to photonic quantum computing. MagiQware is a Dutch quantum computing startup developing AI-assisted software for magic state distillation (MSD), a step that enables fault-tolerant quantum computation. Magic state distillation is needed for quantum computers to outperform classical computers even with quantum error correction in place.

MagiQware's software automates MSD procedures, develops algorithms that need fewer qubits, and improves resource efficiency for faster quantum computation. Its tools let users carry out magic state distillation automatically, quickly, and efficiently. The company is associated with YES!Delft, a leading tech incubator in the Netherlands, and focuses on advancing practical fault-tolerant quantum computing.

MagiQware

NXP Semiconductors is a global semiconductor manufacturer that has been an early mover in post-quantum cryptography in hardware. Working with IBM, NXP co-authored the Crystals-Kyber lattice-based algorithm that NIST selected as a PQC standard.

In November 2024, NXP launched the i.MX 94 applications processor family, its first PQC-ready processor, integrating quantum-safe encryption for industrial and automotive edge applications. NXP's security specialists in Eindhoven focus on quantum-safe hardware, including hardware-based encryption accelerators, secure key storage, and cryptographic modules built directly into chips.

QDI Systems is a Dutch deep tech startup founded in 2019 by physicist Dr. Artem Shulga as a spin-off of the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials at the University of Groningen. It is the first company in the world to apply quantum dot technology to medical imaging, including X-rays and mammography screening. Quantum dots are solution-processable semiconductor nanoparticles that efficiently convert photons into electronic signals, and QDI Systems' quantum dots offer higher image quality with significantly lower radiation doses than conventional technologies.

In January 2024, QDI Systems announced €5 million in Series A funding led by NOM, the Investment and Development Agency for Northern Netherlands, joined by Carduso Capital, RuG Ventures, and Maki.vc, plus a €1.97 million innovation loan from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). QHarbor is a QuTech spin-out solving data management challenges in experimental physics for quantum research. The company develops data management platforms for quantum laboratories. QHarbor's software addresses the complexity of managing, analyzing, and sharing experimental data from quantum physics experiments, improving research productivity and enabling better collaboration in quantum research teams.

QphoX is a Dutch quantum transduction company based in Delft, spun out of QuTech and TU Delft. It develops the world's first Quantum Transducer, a device that converts quantum information between microwave and optical frequencies over fiber at room temperature, allowing superconducting quantum computers to network over optical fiber.

QphoX launched its first commercial Quantum Transducer product in 2025 and partners with Welinq for optical interconnects. It is a founding member of the Quantum Datacenter Alliance alongside Nu Quantum, OQC, Cisco, NTT DATA, Quantinuum, and QuEra.

In September 2025, QphoX and Rigetti won a $5.8M three-year contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to develop microwave-to-optical quantum transduction. The project pairs QphoX transducers with a Rigetti 9-qubit Novera QPU to build a quantum local area network (QLAN) at AFRL's Rome, NY facility, targeting entanglement between superconducting qubits and optical photons and quantum information transmission over telecom fiber. QphoX

QuSoft is the Dutch research centre for quantum software, established in 2015 as a collaboration between CWI (Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica) and the University of Amsterdam. It focuses exclusively on quantum software research, covering quantum algorithms, quantum complexity theory, quantum programming languages, and quantum applications. QuSoft builds no quantum hardware, which makes it the Netherlands' primary centre for quantum software and theory.

QuSoft researchers have made fundamental contributions to quantum algorithms, including improved quantum walks, quantum algorithms for linear systems, and quantum speedups for optimization problems. The centre works closely with QuTech on the software stack for quantum computers and with Dutch industry on near-term quantum applications. It hosts one of Europe's strongest quantum algorithms groups, with former and current members including Harry Buhrman (director), Stacey Jeffery, and Ronald de Wolf.

QuSoft contributes to the Dutch Quantum Delta NL programme and the EU Quantum Flagship through software and algorithms workstreams. QuSoft

The Quantum Internet Alliance (QIA) is a European Quantum Flagship project coordinating the development of a quantum internet across Europe. Led by QuTech (TU Delft and TNO) and involving more than 40 research institutions and companies across Europe, QIA works to build the scientific and engineering foundations for a large-scale quantum network that can distribute entanglement between any two points in Europe.

QIA's technical roadmap moves through six stages of quantum network capability: trusted repeater networks, prepare-and-measure networks, entanglement distribution networks, quantum memory networks, fault-tolerant quantum networks, and finally a fully quantum internet. Experiments at QIA partner sites have already demonstrated entanglement distribution over metropolitan distances using quantum repeaters and quantum memory nodes.

Key partner institutions include QuTech (Netherlands), Inria (France), the University of Geneva, LMU Munich, the University of Stuttgart, and over 30 other European organisations. QIA coordinates closely with national quantum internet initiatives in the Netherlands (Quantum Delta NL), France (Plan Quantique), and Germany. The alliance helped build the first multi-node quantum network demonstrating entanglement-based protocols between three nodes. QIA received roughly 24 million euros in EU Quantum Flagship funding and coordinates Europe's quantum networking standardisation activities.

Shell investigates quantum computing applications for energy optimization and oil and gas operations. Its work explores quantum algorithms for reservoir simulation, molecular modeling for catalyst design, logistics optimization, and energy trading, with the goal of improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact across energy production and distribution.

Shell has partnered with Pasqal to apply neutral-atom quantum computing to molecular simulation for new fuel and lubricant design.
