About
CAS Cold Atom is a Wuhan-based quantum computing company founded in 2020. It develops neutral atom quantum computers based on technology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The company released Hanyuan-1, one of China's first commercial neutral atom quantum computing systems. Its focus is scalable neutral atom quantum processors that use optical tweezers and laser cooling to trap and manipulate individual atoms as qubits. CAS Cold Atom is part of China's effort to commercialize neutral atom quantum computing, competing with international players in a qubit modality known for its potential scalability and long coherence times. Hanyuan-1 reached commercial deployment in 2025 as a 100-qubit system with 99.9% single-qubit and 98% two-qubit gate fidelity, and was exported to Pakistan. In May 2026, CAS Cold Atom unveiled Hanyuan-2, described as the world's first dual-core neutral-atom computer, pairing 100 rubidium-85 and 100 rubidium-87 qubits, though detailed performance benchmarks have not yet been published.
