Quantum Circuits Inc (QCI) is a Yale University spinout founded in 2015 by Prof. Rob Schoelkopf. The company develops superconducting quantum computers built on dual-rail cavity qubits (DRQs), which require 10 times fewer physical qubits per logical qubit. In May 2024, QCI raised an additional $26.5 million from Sequoia, and in August 2024 it raised a $60 million Series B led by ARCH Venture Partners, F-Prime Capital, Sequoia Capital, and Hither Creek Ventures, bringing total funding to $125 million. In November 2024, the company announced the Aqumen Seeker QPU, the industry's first 8-qubit processor with integrated hardware error detection on every qubit. In 2025, QCI achieved roughly 0.1% error per CZ gate, among the best in superconducting systems, with built-in error detection that adds no overhead, and a roadmap pointing toward fault-tolerant quantum computing through native error correction. In January 2026, D-Wave acquired QCI for $550 million, consisting of $300 million in stock and $250 million in cash. QCI's dual-rail superconducting qubit technology and co-founder Rob Schoelkopf now form the core of D-Wave's gate-model quantum computing R&D center in New Haven, CT.
