About
planqc is a German neutral-atom quantum computing company built on research from the Max-Planck-Institute for Quantum Optics. Its technology uses individual atoms confined in crystals of light as qubits, and the company has demonstrated scaling of neutral atoms to 1,200 qubits. Current systems achieve 256 physical qubits. In July 2024, planqc secured EUR 50 million in Series A financing led by CATRON Holding and the DeepTech & Climate Fonds, with the funding directed toward establishing a quantum computing cloud service and developing quantum software for industries such as chemistry, healthcare, and finance. planqc was selected to lead the EUR 20 million MAQCS project, the Multicore Atomic Quantum Computing System, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, to build and deploy a 1,000-qubit neutral-atom quantum computer at the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre in Germany. In May 2023, planqc received a EUR 29 million order from the German Aerospace Center (DLR) to develop a scalable neutral-atom quantum computing platform. In March 2026, planqc partnered with Saarland University, BMW, and Infineon on the EUR 2.3M QIAPO project, the Quantum-Informed Approximate Optimization project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. The three-year project combines neutral-atom quantum computing with classical optimization for automotive production and semiconductor manufacturing.
