Pilot Photonics is a Dublin-based laser product development company founded in 2011. It specializes in photonic integrated circuit (PIC) based laser products that go beyond what is currently available on the market. The company was spun out from DCU and the Tyndall National Institute, drawing on a decade of photonics research at the two Irish centres of excellence. It developed the world's only photonic integrated comb laser source, an optical comb source with benefits for optical communication networks, gas sensing, and the atomic clocks used in GPS navigation satellites. Based at DCU Alpha in Dublin, Pilot Photonics serves the telecommunications, sensing, and quantum technology markets, with laser and PIC solutions that enable quantum computing and quantum communication applications. In 2025, the company secured major European funding to develop key technologies for scaling Co-Packaged Optics (CPO).
