About

Nord Quantique is a quantum error correction company founded in 2020 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, that develops fault-tolerant quantum computers using bosonic codes and multimode encoding. Its Tesseract code exploits the natural redundancy of photons within quantum modes to achieve built-in error resilience. Nord Quantique achieved the world's best encoding ratio, 1 physical qubit per 1 logical qubit using a GKP bosonic code, demonstrated in a peer-reviewed Physical Review Letters paper in February 2024. The company plans to deliver utility-scale machines exceeding 100 logical qubits by 2029. In February 2025, the Government of Canada invested $8.1 million in Sherbrooke's quantum sector, including Nord Quantique. In May 2025, the company announced multimode quantum encoding technology that cuts qubit count and boosts error correction, and it demonstrated the Tesseract bosonic code in superconducting cavities, sustaining quantum information across 32 error correction cycles. In November 2025, Nord Quantique was selected for DARPA Stage B of the Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, worth up to $15M USD, for superconducting technology with bosonic error correction. In December 2025, it received up to CA$23M in non-dilutive funding via Canada's Quantum Champions Program (CQCP) to expand its Sherbrooke lab and double headcount toward its target of more than 100 logical qubits by 2029. In March 2026, Nord Quantique raised US$30M from Fidelity, reaching a valuation of about US$1.4B. Update 2026-06-17: Nord Quantique advanced to Stage 2 of the DARPA Quantum Benchmarking Initiative after demonstrating qubit error correction.
