About
ID Quantique (IDQ) is a Swiss quantum cybersecurity company founded in 2001 as a University of Geneva spinoff. It became the world leader in quantum key distribution (QKD) and quantum-safe security solutions, with world firsts including the first commercial QKD system deployment in 2004 and a 307km QKD distance record. Its products include the Cerberis XG and Clavis XG QKD systems, which serve governments, enterprises, and research institutions across more than 60 countries. In 2025, IDQ was acquired by IonQ for approximately $250 million, becoming IonQ's subsidiary for quantum networking. In June 2025, IDQ's Clavis XG QKD systems and Clarion KX key exchange platform were tested on Colt's live optical network, achieving 99.9999% key transmission reliability, with Colt planning to expand quantum-safe encryption services for financial services customers. In November 2025, IDQ expanded QKD network deployments across European financial institutions and government agencies. In December 2025, it deployed Slovakia's first national quantum communication network as part of the EU-wide EuroQCI initiative. The skQCI project, developed with the Institute of Physics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, securely interconnects Slovakia's Presidential Palace, National Security Authority, and the Quantum Pavilion of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. IDQ systems also provided all QKD hardware for Romania's 1,500 km national quantum network deployed in 2026 under IonQ/IDQ branding. Update 2026-05-30: ID Quantique will present research on ultrafast superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors at the Optica Quantum 2.0 Conference.
