About
CETQAP, the Centre of Excellence for Technology Quantum and Artificial Intelligence Pakistan, is based in Islamabad and works to position Pakistan in global technology by fostering innovation, research, and education in quantum computing and artificial intelligence. In May 2024, CETQAP revealed blueprints for QQ1 (Quaid Quantum 1), marking Pakistan's entry into quantum computing, with a planned 400 qubits and potential applications in computation, encryption, and optimization. The QQ1 project is led by Dr. Zuhair Ahmed, Pakistan's foremost quantum physicist, and a team spanning Canada and Pakistan. CETQAP also developed BARQ, Pakistan's first quantum software framework, whose name means lightning in Urdu. The center offers education, research, internships, consulting, skill development, startup incubation, and outreach in quantum computing and AI, and it leads the IYQ 2025 Pakistan initiative celebrating the International Year of Quantum.
