About
Cambridge Innovation Capital (CIC) is a Cambridge-based venture capital firm founded in 2013 that invests in deeptech and life sciences spinouts from the University of Cambridge and the broader Cambridge cluster. Backed by the University of Cambridge, CIC manages over £100 million in its 2025 Opportunity Fund, aimed at later-stage deep tech and life sciences companies. It has attracted over £1 billion of total investment into Cambridge companies and serves as a key institutional bridge between University of Cambridge research and commercial quantum computing development. CIC has been a cornerstone investor in Riverlane from its initial £3.25M seed round in June 2019 through the £15M Series B and the $75M Series C in August 2024, which was led by Planet First Partners. It also invested in Nu Quantum in a pre-seed round alongside Amadeus Capital Partners. In 2025, Aviva Investors anchored CIC's new Opportunity Fund with a £15 million commitment, with investments going to Pragmatic and Riverlane.
