About

BT Group plc, formerly British Telecom, is a British multinational telecommunications company founded in 1846 and headquartered in London. Together with Toshiba and EY, BT launched the world's first commercial quantum-secured metro network across London in April 2022, connecting Docklands, the City, and the M4 Corridor, with the first paying customer onboarded shortly after. The technical work was carried out at BT's Adastral Park R&D campus in Suffolk with Toshiba's Cambridge Research Laboratory, building on a 2018-19 QKD trial between Cambridge and Adastral Park that was the UK's longest QKD link at the time. BT has continued to expand its quantum-safe service offerings, contributes to the UK Quantum Communications Hub, and is a vocal industry voice on national PQC migration policy and quantum-network buildout.
