In December 2024, AmpliTech announced the successful development of proprietary low-noise cryogenic High Electron Mobility Transistor (HEMT) amplifiers for quantum computing, delivering working units to two Fortune 50 companies, universities, and research institutions. The amplifiers let quantum computers operate efficiently at extremely low temperatures of 4 Kelvin (-452°F), minimizing noise so that quantum signals can be detected accurately. AmpliTech describes itself as the only high-performance U.S. manufacturer offering this component at 4K temperatures, and the USPTO issued a Notice of Allowance for its related patent application. The amplifiers support the development of scalable, error-corrected quantum computers important to advancing AI capabilities.
