About
The AIT Austrian Institute of Technology is Austria's largest non-university research and technology organisation, and it runs a dedicated quantum technology programme focused on applied quantum communications and quantum security. AIT serves as the main bridge between Austria's fundamental quantum research, centred at IQOQI and VCQ, and commercial quantum technology deployment. AIT's quantum work centres on quantum key distribution (QKD) systems, quantum random number generators, post-quantum cryptography implementation, and quantum network integration. The institute developed QKD systems deployed in several European quantum network testbeds and took part in the seQureNet and SECOQC quantum cryptography projects. It operates quantum communication testbeds in Vienna as part of the AIT quantum network and participates in OpenQKD, the EU Quantum Flagship's QKD testbed covering major European cities. AIT works with European industry and government to build quantum-safe communication infrastructure, contributing to national and EU-level post-quantum cryptography migration roadmaps. Its quantum security team provides quantum risk assessments, quantum-safe network design, and technology readiness evaluations for critical infrastructure operators. AIT is a consortium member of multiple EU Quantum Flagship projects and coordinates Austria's contribution to European quantum communication standardisation through ETSI.
