WashU will train AI engineers with a new master’s program

A B- average, equivalent to a GPA of 2.7, will be the academic benchmark for students pursuing a new master’s degree in artificial intelligence engineering at the WashU McKelvey School of Engineering. Beginning in fall 2027, the program will prepare graduate students for a workforce demanding expertise in building and refining AI systems. The 30 credit hour degree requires 18 hours of core coursework and allows for 12 hours of electives, designed to provide a deep understanding of the computational techniques underpinning AI. The Department of Computer Science & Engineering aims to position graduates for high-demand positions in the field. AI Engineering Curriculum: 30 Credit Hour Requirements The Department of Computer Science & Engineering structured the curriculum with 18 credit hours dedicated to core coursework, establishing a foundation in the fundamental techniques of AI system development. Students will then tailor their education through 12 credit hours of elective options, allowing specialization within the rapidly evolving field.
