As IQM’s Japanese partner, TOYO installed an initial IQM superconducting machine at AIST’s G-QuAT in August 2026, demonstrating a rapid expansion of quantum infrastructure within the country, the company says. This collaborative approach, combining hardware deployment with sensor development, positions TOYO as a central player in Japan’s quantum ambitions. The availability of these systems will allow domestic companies, research institutes, and universities to evaluate and verify components used in superconducting quantum computers under real-world operating conditions. TOYO’s President and CEO, Toshiya Kohno, emphasized the importance of hands-on experience for accelerating quantum adoption. He stated that by deploying IQM Spark at their R&D center and linking it with IQM Radiance 20, they will support a broad range of needs across different stages of quantum adoption, including talent development, technology validation, use case creation, and advanced research. IQM’s expansion into Japan is part of a broader trend of growth for the company, which listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market and Helsinki Stock Exchange in July 2026. The company’s order backlog now exceeds €102 million, with 26 full-stack systems sold and 17 delivered globally, including its first system in the United States, according to the company. Goetz explained that owning a machine allows a company to decide whom it serves, and that Japan’s quantum goals for 2030 will not be met with machines inaccessible to others; rather, they will be achieved because a company like TOYO chose to share access to the systems it now owns. Through its Quantum Solutions business, TOYO Corporation intends to continue expanding access to quantum technologies and supporting the sustainable growth of Japan’s quantum ecosystem.
