Insider BriefPRESS RELEASE — Qubic, a quantum technology company developing cryogenic, low-noise amplifiers for quantum computing and applications in sensing and defence, today announces it has signed a contract with an agency of Canada’s federal government valued at up to CA$1.5 million (US$1.1 million). The sale comes on the heels of the company’s $3.5 million seed round in June, and the recent signing of a contract with Quantum Machines, a global leader in hybrid control systems for quantum computing.Under the contract, Qubic will deliver nine amplifiers plus additional components and software for testing and evaluation in a cryogenic environment. The project will assess the performance of Qubic’s devices as low-noise receiver amplifiers for Quantum Computing. All milestones are expected to be hit and products delivered by spring of 2027.“The real-world applications for this technology are both tangible and strategically important on many levels. This is why Qubic has seen a major momentum swing in recent months, including a private financing round and now significant sales to multiple customers,” said Jerome Bourassa, CEO and Co-Founder at Qubic. “The market is beginning to accept what has been our thesis from the outset. Quantum computing requires hardware innovations such as our amplifier, which unlocks new physical capabilities, in order to reach utility-scale in the medium term. Furthermore, our technology will enable future advancements related to several other applications and is already attracting interest from organizations across multiple sectors.”The contract has been awarded through the Innovation Solutions Canada (ISC) Testing Stream. This federal innovation-procurement program allows the Government of Canada to purchase and evaluate late-stage Canadian technology for use in real-world settings. As part of the agreement, the government agency making the purchase will test and evaluate the equipment and then provide feedback to Qubic based on its assessments. This valuable customer input is expected to accelerate the company’s quantum hardware development and commercialization.

Kinetic Inductance Traveling Wave Parametric Amplifiers (KI-TWPAs) deliver ultra-low-noise amplification across a wide microwave bandwidth, boosting weak signals while introducing minimal distortion. Traditional amplifiers typically used in cryogenic environments consume nearly half the available cooling power of dilution refrigerators. Heat dissipation from Qubic’s devices is projected to drop below 0.1 mW, a notable achievement with major implications for applied quantum sensing and for the scalability of quantum computing.Designed primarily for reading out superconducting qubits, these devices also work with other qubit modalities. Where conventional amplifier designs depend on Josephson junctions, components known for their fragility, Qubic’s KI-TWPAs instead draw their nonlinear inductance directly from the transmission line material itself.
