Riverlane – a U.K. company that specializes in quantum error correction technology – is establishing its American headquarters in the state’s Discovery District. Located near the University of Maryland, College Park, the thriving research park is also home to Microsoft’s research center and IQM’s technology center. “Establishing our U.S. headquarters in Maryland puts us at the heart of an exceptional ecosystem of researchers, industry leaders and government partners working to advance quantum. With Riverlane’s help, Maryland’s concentration of top tech workers will continue to thrive. This is the second British quantum company to recently expand across the pond to Maryland. The company is working on a new $200 million global headquarters in College Park, solidifying its commitment to Maryland and the state’s growing innovation ecosystem. Earlier this year, Maryland reinvested in its Capital of Quantum initiative during legislative session, designating tens of millions of dollars to growing the state’s quantum sector. Since launching the initiative in 2025, Maryland has secured more than $500 million in quantum investments.
