The other award winners are quantum computing companies, including Rigetti, D-Wave, PsiQuantum and Quantinuum.Here are more details about the awards:*The U.S. Department of Commerce announced the signing of a final award of up to $375 million to GlobalFoundries (GF) under the CHIPS and Science Act. This award provides funding towards R&D to support the establishment of a secure, domestic quantum foundry that will serve multiple quantum architectures and modalities, as well as R&D related to differentiated capabilities in cryogenic CMOS process design kits, advanced packaging and heterogenous integration.(GF has also recently announced it has entered into a $300 million letter of intent with the Department’s CHIPS Research and Development Office to accelerate R&D in silicon photonics.)*Rigetti received up to $100 million in funding under the CHIPS and Science Act. The R&D funded by this award addresses key technical challenges to develop and scale next-generation superconducting quantum computing technologies, including readout electronics, cryostat architectures, and fabrication capability for high-connectivity chip architectures.*D-Wave received up to $100 million in funding under the CHIPS and Science Act. This award will fund R&D for the critical advancement of semiconductor process technologies for annealing and gate-model superconducting quantum computing systems, including qubit counts, error rates, and coherence through advanced dielectric material optimization, interface control, and high-density advanced packaging.*The U.S. Department of Commerce announced the signing of a final award of up to $100 million to PsiQuantum. The R&D funded by this award addresses key photonic quantum computing technical challenges and integration into semiconductor manufacturing for mature and high-performance electro-optic materials, high-temperature single-photon detectors, and ultra-low-loss photonic packaging.*The U.S. Department of Commerce announced the signing of a final award of up to $100 million to Quantinuum under the CHIPS and Science Act. The R&D funded by this award addresses critical technology and quantum semiconductor manufacturing bottlenecks for scaling of fault-tolerant trapped-ion-based quantum computers, such as low-loss integrated photonics, specialized semiconductors for cryogenic use, and reliable optical components at trapped-ion critical wavelengths.Subscribe51Share
