We develop theoretical and practical approaches to quantum error correction, in close collaboration with experimental groups at QRC and external partners. • Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates • Start date: Flexible (anytime in 2026–early 2027). The role: you will conduct independent and collaborative research spanning the theoretical foundations and practical implementations of QEC. You will work closely with in-house experts in quantum information, device physics, quantum middleware, and superconducting-qubit experiments, as well as with our external theory and experiment partners. Example research directions · Decoders for quantum error-correction codes · Realistic noise models and noise tailoring of codes · Machine learning for QEC · Design of fault-tolerant circuits · Magic-state distillation and cultivation · Characterization and benchmarking of error-corrected systems · Simulation methods for QEC · Design and implementation of codes for current quantum devices About us: TII is a well-funded UAE national research institute aiming to be a global hub for Science & Technology R&D. QRC provides an ideal environment for QEC with world-class specialists and a vibrant, growing ecosystem.
The Quantum Algorithms Division is directed by Dr. Leandro Aolita. Researchers collaborate closely across QRC divisions. See https://www.tii.ae/quantum for more details about QRC. What we offer: · Appointment: initially for 3 years but with option to extend to unlimited-time contract · Compensation: Highly competitive, above typical US/EU levels · Support: Substantial personal/family allowances, relocation support, generous travel and equipment budgets · Environment: Access to in-house superconducting setups, and collaborations with leading quantum-hardware providers and academic labs What we’re looking for: · Track record of impactful research in QEC or closely related areas of quantum information · Experience that bridges theory and software implementations (or a strong desire to build that bridge) · Ability to collaborate across disciplines and mentor junior researchers · Strong communication skills How to apply: Email tobias.haug@tii.ae (via email adresses from official institutions only) with: 1. CV 2. Brief motivation letter (≤ 1 page) 3. Research statement (interests & experience, ≤ 2 pages) 4. List of publications and patents 5. References: Upon request arrange for at least two recommendation letters Review of applications is rolling until positions are filled. We value diversity and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
