Insider BriefPRESS RELEASE — New Mexico is investing $3 million in The University of New Mexico’s Quantum New Mexico Institute (QNM-I) to strengthen the state’s quantum workforce and accelerate research and commercialization.Economic Development New Mexico and QNM-I recently signed an Intergovernmental Agreement that aims to build on the institute’s research excellence, attract top talent and grow New Mexico’s position as a national leader in quantum innovation.The investment will support three key priorities:The agreement is part of New Mexico’s broader strategy to invest more than $450 million in building a world-leading quantum ecosystem spanning research, workforce development, infrastructure and commercialization.“The future of quantum is being built today, and New Mexico has a unique opportunity to lead, said Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Rob Black. “The University of New Mexico is a leader in quantum research, and this partnership helps translate that leadership into new companies, good jobs for our families and lasting economic opportunity.”“New Mexico is home to remarkable quantum talent, and it is a privilege to help that talent flourish,” said University of New Mexico President Steven Goldstein. “This partnership allows us to build on the extraordinary work of UNM’s faculty and student researchers and will create lasting opportunities for our state: new companies, new careers, and a workforce ready to carry this momentum forward.
