Florida International University Contracts IonQ for On-Premises Superion 256 Trapped-Ion Quantum Computer Trapped-ion quantum hardware manufacturer IonQ, Inc. (NYSE: IONQ) has executed a commercial procurement agreement with Florida International University (FIU) to supply and install an on-premises IonQ Superion quantum computer. The contract establishes FIU as IonQ’s flagship academic partner in Florida, marking the first on-site installation of a 256-qubit trapped-ion system in the state. The sixth-generation IonQ Superion architecture features 256 physical trapped-ion qubits engineered for high-density, reconfigurable all-to-all connectivity. Scheduled for installation in late 2027 following the completion of FIU’s dedicated campus data center facility, the system will provide direct physical compute access for FIU’s 1,200 faculty members, 56,000 students, and regional commercial partners across South Florida.
