OpenAI introduced a $100/month Pro ChatGPT tier, offering five times more Codex usage than its $20 Plus plan, targeting developers needing extended AI coding assistance. The new tier expands OpenAI’s personal subscription options to five levels, including two Pro plans, competing directly with Anthropic’s Claude Code, which offers similar pricing tiers up to $200/month. Codex, OpenAI’s AI coding tool, now has 3 million weekly users, with usage limits resetting every million users until hitting 10 million, reflecting rapid adoption and scaling efforts. OpenAI’s standalone Codex app for Apple computers, launched in February, aims to boost accessibility as AI coding tools gain traction, with the sector’s revenue exceeding $2.5 billion in early 2026. The move intensifies competition in AI-assisted coding, where both OpenAI and Anthropic are vying for dominance by expanding high-tier subscriptions for power users.
