MercadoLibre’s stock (MELI) entered oversold territory on May 9, 2022, with its Relative Strength Index (RSI) dropping to 28.8, below the 30 threshold signaling potential exhaustion of selling pressure. The stock hit a low of $794.253 per share, nearing its 52-week bottom, while its high stands at $1,970.13, reflecting significant volatility over the past year. The S&P 500 ETF (SPY) had a higher RSI of 34.7, suggesting broader market momentum remains stronger compared to MELI’s steep decline. Bullish investors may view the oversold RSI as a buying opportunity, aligning with Warren Buffett’s contrarian strategy of capitalizing on market fear. One way we can try to measure the level of fear in a given stock is through a technical analysis indicator called the Relative Strength Index, or RSI, which measures momentum on a scale of zero to 100. A stock is considered to be oversold if the RSI reading falls below 30. In trading on Monday, shares of MercadoLibre Inc (Symbol: MELI) entered into oversold territory, hitting an RSI reading of 28.8, after changing hands as low as $794.253 per share. By comparison, the current RSI reading of the S&P 500 ETF (SPY) is 34.7. A bullish investor could look at MELI's 28.8 RSI reading today as a sign that the recent heavy selling is in the process of exhausting itself, and begin to look for entry point opportunities on the buy side.
