⚡ Quantum Brief
Chicago has emerged as a national quantum computing hub, securing nearly $1 billion in federal and state funding, including $500 million for the Illinois Quantum & Microelectronics Park (IQMP) in South Chicago. The 128-acre IQMP, slated for 2027, will repurpose the former U.S. Steel South Works site into a cutting-edge tech campus with advanced cryogenic and lab infrastructure to accelerate commercialization. Illinois uniquely hosts two DOE National Quantum Centers—Q-NEXT and SQMS—and operates a 124-mile quantum network testbed connecting Argonne, Fermilab, and the University of Chicago. The region’s growing quantum ecosystem is driving demand for office, lab, and R&D space, attracting international investment and expanding Chicago’s innovation footprint. Designated a U.S. Regional Innovation and Technology Hub in 2023, Chicago’s quantum leadership is bolstered by academic-industry collaboration and federal backing.
