The quantum computing company has also expanded its network optimization deal with AT&T (T). D-Wave Quantum CEO and president Alan Baratz sits down with Julie Hyman to talk more about its optimization goals for AT&T and other clients. Video Transcript 00:00 Speaker A Quantum is very good for optimizing processes. We've talked about that before. And one of the things you mentioned when you talked about this is a particular process going from an hour to 15 seconds.00:15 Speaker B We're actually applying our quantum systems today to as you said, a broad array of optimization problems. Um everything from in the case of AT&T, uh we're talking about outage detection to Ford Otosan automotive body assembly, to NTT Docomo cell tower resource optimization. The point is, these are all very hard computational problems. And typically, it can take many hours to solve them and many times you don't even get the optimal solution. So with D-wave and our annealing quantum computers, we're actually to provide able to provide better solutions much faster and that really helps improve the bottom line for these businesses.01:07 Speaker A What percentage of the time is it right? Because I know with some types of quantum, its accuracy rate is I mean it's going up over time, but it's still far from perfect.01:17 Speaker B Yeah. So, in some sense, when it comes to optimization, it's always right in the sense that, you know, they're good solutions, maybe not the best possible solution, but always good solutions. The point with quantum is that we are generally able to deliver much better solutions than what classical can deliver and we can do it much faster. And so, you know, if at the end of the day, that means you can assemble automotive bodies more rapidly, or you can get more cell phones per cell tower, that generates a good ROI for our customers.01:54 Speaker A Um and this particular contract, is it still pilot? What's sort of the structure of that? What can you tell me?02:00 Speaker B Yeah. So, uh, the initial, uh, engagement with AT&T started several months ago where we were working with them on a network optimization problem. That's the problem that we were able to perform the computation in 15 seconds when classically it was taking well over an hour. The results were so um exciting to AT&T that they decided to put a broader partnership in place with D-wave.
