Thailand is establishing Quantum Club Thailand, a national collaboration platform located at True Digital Park on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok. The initiative unites the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Charoen Pokphand Group, True Corporation, and other partners to cultivate quantum talent and accelerate industrial applications. MHESI Minister Yodchanan Wongsawat stated Quantum Club Thailand “represents a collaborative effort to build an innovation ecosystem capable of delivering practical applications, stimulating economic growth, and positioning Thailand as a future quantum innovator.” The club will initially focus on three programs, Quantum Academy Thailand, Quantum Industry Lab, and Quantum Innovation Challenge, to build a national quantum ecosystem.

Quantum Club Thailand will pursue four strategic missions: developing human capital, promoting research, driving industrial adoption, and fostering innovation capable of commercialization. This focused strategy prioritizes targeted development in key areas rather than a broad, undefined approach. Thailand is actively forging international partnerships with quantum leaders in Europe, North America, and Asia, with qBraid providing Thai researchers and enterprises cloud-based access to over 26 quantum computing hardware systems. Suphachai Chearavanont, senior chairman of CP Group, highlighted the importance of integration, noting, “By integrating quantum computing into existing technological clusters—including biotechnology, food technology, AI and space economy hubs—Thailand is building a complete, highly interconnected ecosystem.” This structure ensures local innovators can test solutions domestically before scaling them across international markets. QTRic currently manages over 80 quantum technology prototypes, supported by a network of more than 120 researchers from 19 partner organizations, demonstrating a robust foundation for future growth. Our long-term objective is to position Thailand as Asean’s quantum hub. Photonics and Quantum Computing Drive AI Infrastructure Development The convergence of photonics and quantum computing is rapidly reshaping the foundations of artificial intelligence infrastructure, requiring a re-evaluation of traditional high-performance computing (HPC) capabilities. Thailand’s recent launch of Quantum Club Thailand reflects a strategic recognition of this shift, aiming to address the escalating data processing needs of next-generation AI systems. MHESI Minister Yodchanan Wongsawat articulated this need, stating quantum technology forms “a critical triad alongside nuclear energy and space exploration—all converging to fuel artificial intelligence (AI) and data infrastructure.” The limitations of conventional HPC in handling the immense data streams generated by terrestrial biosensors, genomic profiles, and space-based remote sensing are driving the push toward quantum solutions. This is not simply about faster processing; it’s about enabling a fundamentally different kind of intelligence, requiring these vast data streams, a demand exceeding the capacity of current systems. Integrating quantum high-performance computing and photonics is therefore considered imperative to maintain Thailand’s national technological sovereignty. The country’s approach prioritizes a holistic infrastructure build, recognizing the energy demands of these advanced computing platforms. He specified that “the strategic convergence of small modular reactors, nuclear power and renewable energy will be required to power the computing platforms of tomorrow.” This focus on sustainable energy sources underscores a long-term commitment to a viable quantum ecosystem. Beyond computational power, Thailand is actively building international collaborations to accelerate development, and this access is coupled with a streamlined national strategy, facilitated by the existing Quantum Policy Committee, which coordinates policy alignment across ten government ministries. Simultaneously, Thailand is leveraging its academic strengths in physics and chemistry to pioneer optical quantum computing architecture, capitalizing on existing photonics and semiconductor research.
