D-Wave announces quantum computing deals with Florida Atlantic University and unnamed Fortune 100 company worth $30m Company announced number of updates to customers at its annual Qubits user conference January 28, 2026 By Charlotte Trueman Have your say Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Reddit Email Share Quantum computing company D-Wave has announced deals with Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and a “leading Fortune 100 company” for a combined commitment of $30 million. The $20m agreement with FAU will see the university acquire and install an Advantage2 quantum computer at its Boca Raton campus. – D-Wave Meanwhile, the second deal consists of a $10m commitment over two years for D-Wave to provide the unnamed company with a Quantum Computing-as-a-Service (QCaaS) offering, under which it will provide annealing and gate-model systems, software, and services. Under the terms of that agreement, the companies plan to collaborate to develop and deploy several quantum-powered applications.D-Wave expects to deploy the system at FAU later this year, with the agreement also paving the way for the creation of a D-Wave Quantum Applications Academy at FAU to support research, training, and workforce development initiatives. Furthermore, the state of Florida and the city of Boca Raton will provide job growth and training incentives to expand the quantum talent pool in the US.“This marks a defining moment for FAU and for D-Wave,” said Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave. “Deploying a D-Wave quantum computer at FAU will establish the university as a preeminent center for quantum computing education and research. It signals that the university is not just preparing for the quantum era — it is helping to shape it. For D-Wave, it signifies an important collaboration with a leading academic institution to further quantum computing experimentation and innovation.”Commenting on the QcaaS agreement, Baratz added: “This agreement marks a significant milestone in D-Wave’s annealing quantum computing enterprise adoption and impact. No other company in the world has production-grade quantum technology in the market today, and this agreement is inarguably one of the most significant endorsements of how our solutions stand to benefit the world’s leading companies.”The announcements were made during the company’s Qubits 2026 user conference, where D-Wave unveiled several new annealing quantum computing enhancements and shared details of its accelerated gate-model development roadmap, which includes demonstrations of scalable on-chip cryogenic control of qubits and the company’s plans to bring an initial gate-model system to market in 2026.The event takes place three weeks after D-Wave announced it was acquiring Quantum Circuits for $550m, which the former claims will make it the only company with all three technologies required for scaled, error-corrected superconducting gate-model quantum computing.D-Wave simultaneously announced it was relocating its corporate headquarters to Boca Raton Innovation Center from Palo Alto, California, with the move expected to be completed before the end of 2026.The new location further expands D-Wave’s North American presence, which includes a gate-model-focused R&D center in New Haven, Connecticut, a Quantum Engineering Center of Excellence in Burnaby, Canada, and systems located in Marina Del Rey, CA, and Huntsville, Alabama, the company said in a statement.
