Could quantum computing become the hardware catalyst for the singularity?

Understand this faster with AI
Most discussions about the singularity focus on model architecture, scaling, agents, robotics, or data. But I wonder if the real acceleration point could come from hardware — especially if quantum computing eventually becomes practical enough to solve classes of problems that classical systems struggle with. I’m not saying quantum computers automatically lead to AGI. But could they become a catalyst by accelerating optimization, simulation, materials science, drug discovery, cryptography, or even AI training/inference in unexpected ways? Do you think quantum computing is relevant to the singularity timeline, or is it mostly overhyped in this context? submitted by /u/drabarca_ai [link] [comments]
