It is well positioned for regional connectivity and forms part of an emerging axis of technological innovation—sometimes referred to as the “new Silicon Valley of the East.” HKUST(GZ) offers cutting-edge research facilities to support investigators across a wide range of disciplines. It is a spin-off from the world-class HKUST, and the two campuses benefit from strong synergy and shared resources—another departure from conventional practice in higher education. When fully developed, the HKUST(GZ) community will include approximately 800 faculty members, 4,000 undergraduates, and 6,000 postgraduates. At HKUST(GZ), English is the primary language for instruction and administration, accommodating our highly international student body. Situated in the culturally vibrant city of Guangzhou, our campus offers a dynamic and collaborative academic setting. Our faculty is internationally diverse, with members coming from prestigious institutions worldwide. The AI Thrust in the Information Hub is an academic unit dedicated to both theoretical and applied research in AI and machine learning. Research areas include, but are not limited to, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, robotics, reinforcement learning, data science, and multi-agent systems.
