AQT quantum computer launches on AWS Braket Company makes 12-qubit system available through Amazon's cloud November 20, 2025 By Dan Swinhoe Have your say Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Reddit Email Share Alpine Quantum Technologies (AQT) has made one of its quantum computers available on Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Braket service.Braket makes quantum computers available through the cloud, letting customers reserve time on systems via their AWS accounts. – AQT | Amazon Web Services AQT has brought its IBEX Q1 trapped-ion quantum computer to Braket, offering customers access to a 12-qubit trapped-ion system via the cloud.“With the integration of IBEX Q1 into Amazon Braket, we continue to expand the choices for AWS customers experimenting with quantum computing,” said Eric Kessler, general manager, Amazon Braket. “We’re excited to deepen our dedication to EU customers and the European quantum computing community by providing access to locally hosted infrastructure, meeting critical sovereignty needs. AQT on Braket opens new opportunities for EU-based customers, providing access to trapped-ion technology to advance their research in quantum computing.”The IBEX Q1 device is physically located in Innsbruck, Austria, and is available through the eu-north-1 Region in Stockholm, Sweden. The device is available Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 09:00 to 16:00 UTC.Amazon noted AQT’s system fits into two standard 19-inch data center racks, operates at room temperature, and consumes less than 2kW of power.“With the IBEX Q1 system on Amazon Braket, AQT is happy to provide European and international customers convenient and reliable access to our high-performance trapped-ion quantum computers,” added Thomas Monz, CEO of AQT. “Our fully connected quantum processor and low error rates facilitate the realization of quantum-enhanced markets. The shared commitment of Braket and AQT brings this technology to a global audience and enables novel use-cases and value-generation.”A spin-off of the University of Innsbruck and the Austrian Academy of Sciences, AQT offers ion trap-based quantum computers that can be housed in industry-standard racks and run at room temperature.Braket launched in the US in 2020, and was initially available from AWS' Virginia, California, and Oregon regions. The quantum systems are not housed in AWS data centers; instead, they are hosted by their respective providers and connect to AWS’ cloud via APIs.As well as offering access to its own quantum simulators, quantum companies with systems available through Braket include IonQ, IQM, Rigetti, and QuEra.Braket came to the UK via its Eu-west-2 region in London in 2022 with access to a system from Oxford Quantum Circuits (no longer listed on Braket), and launched in mainland Europe last year with hardware from IQM.D-Wave, OQC, and Xanadu were previously available but are no longer listed on Braket. D-Wave, which launched on Braket in 2020, has instead been available through AWS Marketplace since late 2022. Xanadu retired the computer available via Braket in June 2023. Access to OQC’s Lucy system was previously available via Amazon’s London region in the UK, but access was removed in June 2024.
