U.S. stock markets stabilized February 13, 2026, as January’s CPI data showed inflation cooling to 2.4%—below expectations—easing investor concerns and slowing AI-driven sell-offs that dominated earlier in the week. The S&P 500 rose 0.05% to 6,836.17, while the Nasdaq dipped 0.22% after a 2.1% weekly decline, reflecting lingering caution ahead of the Presidents’ Day closure and persistent AI disruption fears. Applied Materials surged 8.08% on strong Q1 earnings, and Rivian jumped 26.64% after beating expectations, outpacing broader market gains as sector-specific optimism offset macroeconomic jitters. Coinbase rebounded 16.56% despite weak Q4 revenue, tracking Bitcoin’s 4.59% gain, while Medtronic fell 1.38% ahead of earnings, highlighting divergent sector performances amid shifting risk appetites. Analysts dismissed the week’s AI-fueled sell-off as overblown, with cooler inflation data temporarily calming markets, though concerns persist about automation’s long-term impact on SaaS and other sectors.

AI replacement fears have dominated the markets this week. What started as a concern that automation could undermine software as a service (SaaS) stocks rapidly spread into other sectors.
