Lucid Motors is cutting 12% of its U.S. workforce, excluding hourly production roles, to streamline operations and pursue profitability amid an industry-wide EV slowdown. The layoffs, announced by interim CEO Marc Winterhoff, target non-production staff as the company faces declining EV demand and financial losses, including a $1 billion net loss in Q3 2025. Despite doubling sales in 2025 due to its Gravity SUV, Lucid continues burning cash, forcing cost-cutting measures as the U.S. EV market contracts post-tax credit expiration. Winterhoff emphasized the move aligns with Lucid’s long-term strategy, including expanding into robotaxis, ADAS development, and global sales growth for its Air and Gravity models. Affected employees will receive severance, bonuses, and transition support, while the company maintains focus on its Midsize platform production and operational discipline.
