Home Depot opened its first store in Atlanta, Georgia, and subsequently made the area its global headquarters. Founded in 1978, the home improvement retailer has an international reach, operating more than 2,359 stores in the U.S. and its territories, Canada, and Mexico. The brand's executive and administrative hub, though, remains in Atlanta. Adjacent to its main office building is a large car park building. The campus was reportedly built in the 1990s, and it has undergone or is projected to undergo renovations. Nelson Worldwide, an architecture and design firm based in Minneapolis, has done work on the collaboration space on the main floor of the Store Support Center, which covers 15,660 square feet. Nelson said it placed non-assigned workspaces that provided Home Depot employees and independent contractors with flexible work options. WSBTV reported that some of Home Depot’s Cobb County facilities have been “severely underutilized” and largely vacant since the COVID-19 pandemic.
