Lean hog futures declined 7–15 cents midday Thursday, with April contracts dropping to $90.75. The USDA’s national base hog price fell 35 cents to $90.92, while the CME Lean Hog Index slipped 6 cents to $91.65. USDA’s pork carcass cutout value rose 20 cents to $96.60 per cwt, driven by higher loin, butt, and ham prices. Slaughter data showed 497,000 head processed Wednesday, pushing weekly totals 97,000 above last week. Export sales hit a 5-week high at 40,339 MT, with shipments reaching 39,115 MT—the highest in four weeks. Strong demand contrasts with domestic price weakness. Traders anticipate USDA’s afternoon Hogs and Pigs report to show a 0.9% annual inventory increase, with market hogs up 1% but breeding stock down 0.2%. May and June futures also dipped, settling at $95.40 and $104.05, respectively. Year-to-date slaughter exceeds 2025 levels by 39,163 head.
