Cotton futures rebounded Friday midday after early losses, with May contracts closing at 76.73 (up 103 points) and December at 79.95 (up 96 points). The reversal followed broader commodity shifts, including crude oil’s $11.27 drop after Iran reopened the Strait of Hormuz. USDA data showed export commitments at 10.409 million bales, down 1% year-over-year and lagging the five-year average by 8%. Exports hit 6.71 million bales, trailing the 62% historical pace, signaling weaker global demand. The Cotlook A Index rose 100 points to 86.60 cents/lb, while the Adjusted World Price jumped 287 points to 61.61 cents/lb. ICE-certified stocks remained stable at 162,367 bales as of April 16. The Seam reported 4,014 bales sold at 74.94 cents/lb on April 15, reflecting steady domestic trading activity despite export slowdowns. A weaker US dollar ($97.775, down $0.270) supported commodity gains. Market volatility persists amid geopolitical shifts and supply-chain adjustments, with cotton’s recovery contrasting crude oil’s sharp decline on Middle East developments.
