Cotton futures rose 1–24 points across contracts on March 6, 2026, with May contracts still down 141 points for the week. Gains were driven by external factors, including a $10.22 surge in crude oil to $91.23 and a weaker U.S. dollar index. USDA data showed 2025/26 cotton export commitments at 8.904 million bales (79% of estimates), lagging the 92% historical average. Shipments also trailed at 41% versus the 47% norm, signaling slower demand. Managed money increased net short positions in cotton futures by 7,569 contracts to 72,937 as of March 3, per CFTC. The Cotlook A Index rose 25 points to 74.75 cents, while ICE certified stocks fell 798 bales to 128,504. The Seam reported 584 bales sold at 54.29 cents/lb on March 5. The Adjusted World Price dropped 40 points to 51.44 cents, reflecting mixed market signals amid decertification activity. March, May, and July 2026 contracts closed at 63.19, 64.20, and 66.16 cents respectively, each up 16 points, despite lingering weekly losses and bearish speculative positioning.
