Cotton futures rebounded Wednesday morning after steep losses Tuesday, rising 8 to 30 points across contracts following a 210-227 point drop the prior day. China imposed a 15% tariff on U.S. cotton imports, retaliating against a 10% U.S. tariff on Chinese goods, threatening 250,100 unshipped bales already sold to China. The Cotlook A Index fell 125 points to 76.00 cents/lb on March 3, while USDA cut its Adjusted World Price by 78 points to 53.89 cents/lb last Thursday. Monday’s Seam auction sold 1,769 bales at 62.64 cents/lb, while ICE certified stocks held steady at 12,653 bales. Crude oil dropped 33 cents/barrel, and the U.S. dollar index fell $1.159, adding mixed pressure to cotton’s volatile price movement.
