Corn futures opened slightly lower Friday after gaining 5-6 cents Thursday, with December contracts at $4.21¾. Open interest rose by 10,767 contracts, driven by December and March positions. S&P Global cut U.S. corn yield estimates to 185.5 bushels per acre, down 3.6 from last month, projecting total production at 16.707 billion bushels. October’s December corn average—currently $4.19—will set harvest insurance prices, below the spring’s $4.70. Cash corn prices hit $3.78¼, up 5½ cents. Light rainfall may delay Eastern Corn Belt harvests next week, affecting Nebraska, Iowa, and the Dakotas. Nearby contracts show mixed trends: March 2026 corn dipped ½ cent to $4.38, while May 2026 fell to $4.47¾.
