Corn futures fell 1–3 cents across contracts on Tuesday, with the national cash price dropping to $4.09¾, reflecting modest losses amid broader commodity volatility. The USDA’s March WASDE report left U.S. corn carryout unchanged at 2.127 billion bushels, signaling stable domestic supply despite global shifts in production estimates. Global corn stocks rose 3.76 MMT to 292.75 MMT after offsetting adjustments: Brazil’s output increased by 1 MMT (132 MMT total), while Argentina’s fell by 1 MMT (52 MMT), alongside higher Ukrainian production. Crude oil plunged $8.38 as U.S. forces escorted vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, though prices recovered $8 from lows on reports of Iranian mine placements, indirectly pressuring ethanol-linked corn markets. Traders await Wednesday’s EIA report, anticipating a rebound in ethanol production after last week’s dip, which could influence near-term corn demand and pricing dynamics.
