Bank of America is overhauling its loyalty program, renaming it BofA Rewards and launching changes on May 27, 2026. The update simplifies entry but reduces rewards for some high-tier cardholders. The program now requires only a personal checking account to join, eliminating the $20,000 balance threshold. However, higher tiers still demand significant balances, with top rewards reserved for $1M+ customers. Rewards tiers are restructured: Member (10% boost), Preferred Plus ($30K–$99K, 25%), Preferred Honors ($100K–$999K, 50%), and Premier ($1M+, 75%). Platinum Honors members face a 25% cut in boosts. New perks include streaming reimbursements (up to $180/year for Premier), expanded lifestyle benefits for $100K+ balances, and enhanced fraud monitoring for all members. An updated app will centralize benefits, while all Bank of America credit cards remain eligible for rewards bonuses under the revamped program.

Bank of America® is making changes to its loyalty program, including a new name, new program tiers and a shift in credit card rewards bonuses for some cardholders, among others. In short, while it'll be much easier to qualify for the program, it may be harder for some existing members to maintain their current status tiers. The program, previously called Bank of America® Preferred Rewards, is dropping the “Preferred” from its name and will be called the BofA Rewards® program. The new program will launch on May 27, 2026, and customers who are Preferred Rewards members will be automatically changed to BofA Rewards® on or around that date. While there will no longer be a balance requirement to join the program, customers will still need to keep a considerable amount of money with Bank of America® to qualify for the next-highest rewards tier.
