Major institutional investors including Ken Griffin’s Citadel ($2.5B), Bill Ackman’s Pershing Square, and Seth Klarman’s Baupost Group aggressively bought Amazon shares in Q4 2025, signaling strong confidence in its long-term growth. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the primary driver, as its cloud infrastructure powers the booming AI data center market, attracting institutional capital despite the stock’s underperformance over the past year. Citadel’s total Amazon stake now exceeds $3.2 billion, while Egerton Capital made it their largest holding, reflecting a strategic bet on AI-driven cloud demand and AWS’s dominant market position. The stock’s recent dip—trading near 52-week lows—created a buying opportunity for funds, allowing them to accumulate shares at a discount compared to prior valuations. Retail investors may follow institutional cues, as professional managers’ bullish moves suggest Amazon’s AI and cloud growth outweighs short-term volatility.

A stock that hasn't exactly been a favorite among individual investors of late still managed to attract some noteworthy institutional investor interest. How does the old saying go? "Follow the money?" While it's a phrase frequently used within the political arena, it's good advice for investors as well -- if investors' money is flowing toward a particular investment, there's probably a good reason. More than a little money is clearly flowing into one particular name right now. That's Amazon (AMZN +1.60%). Based on recent 13F filings, Bill Ackman's Pershing Square and John Armitage's Egerton Capital purchased 3.7 million and 1.8 million shares (respectively) of the e-commerce giant during the fourth quarter, making Amazon Egerton's single-largest position. Seth Klarman's Baupost Group added a little more than 2.1 million Amazon shares to its portfolio last quarter as well, making it more than 9% of Baupost's total holdings. Image source: Getty Images. Perhaps the most noteworthy investment made in Amazon among the major money managers during the final quarter of 2025, however, is Ken Griffin's Citadel fund. It purchased $2.5 billion worth of the company in Q4, bringing the total value of its Amazon position up to roughly $3.2 billion. In all four cases, though, the overarching theme is almost certainly the same. That's the continued growth of its cloud computing arm, Amazon Web Services, which serves the ever-growing artificial intelligence data center market. The fact that these investment managers were able to scoop up these shares after nearly a year's worth of subpar performance from Amazon stock makes it an even more attractive pickup for these managers. More importantly to interested investors, this bullish interest in Amazon from professional stock pickers is something of a green light for you. Better still, right now you can buy Amazon shares at a lower price than any of these money managers paid.Read NextFeb 24, 2026 •By Justin PopeAmazon's Stock Dropped 11% After Its AI Spending Announcement.
