About
The National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) is the UK's national centre for translating quantum research into industrial impact. It is based at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory on Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire. The 4,000 m2 facility opened in November 2024 with 93M pounds of capital funding plus 50M pounds from UKRI, and it now hosts twelve quantum testbeds: eight delivered by industry partners and four built by NQCC scientists. The NQCC's SparQ user-engagement programme connects energy, healthcare, climate, and financial-services users to the testbeds, alongside a quantum-apprenticeship pipeline, PhD studentships, and industry crash-courses. The NQCC is the UK's primary public quantum-computing infrastructure facility.
