About
The Quantum Startup Foundry (QSF) is a quantum business incubator established by the University of Maryland, located next to the UMD campus in College Park, Maryland, in the Washington D.C. metro area. It was created with an initial $25 million investment from the University of Maryland's Discovery Fund alongside State of Maryland funding, and it brings together resources to help entrepreneurs and startups bring quantum technologies to market. QSF runs two structured programs. Pre-TraQtion supports early-stage startups working through SBIR and STTR programs on quantum technology topics, and TraQtion is a market accelerator for more advanced startups. The facility provides offices, conference rooms, and dry labs, and it connects entrepreneurs with industry and government customers, investors, technical mentors from UMD's quantum faculty, and quantum-specific equipment, tools, and facilities. The program is part of the University of Maryland Innovation Gateway and draws on the Mid-Atlantic Quantum Alliance ecosystem. QSF received additional 2024 funding to implement a shared lab concept through the AQCESS (Advanced Quantum-Centered Experience for Startups and Students) project. Its DC-area location places QSF startups near major government quantum customers including the DoD, DHS, and national laboratories.
