About
The Quantum Technology Enterprise Centre (QTEC) was a pre-incubator program created in 2016 at the University of Bristol, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) as part of the UK's GBP 270 million National Quantum Technologies Programme. Its mission was to assess the scientific and commercial viability of quantum technology products, offering training and mentorship for quantum technology innovators and entrepreneurs, led by expert mentors in the field. Over five years and four cohorts, QTEC supported more than 48 individuals who went on to create roughly a third of the UK's funded quantum technology companies, and its portfolio companies collectively raised over GBP 56 million. Notable alumni include Zero Point Motion, which works on quantum-enhanced inertial sensing, along with numerous other UK quantum technology spinouts. QTEC closed in July 2022 when the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme funding concluded. After its closure, many of the program's learnings were carried into SETsquared Bristol's Quest pre-incubation programme, which continues to support deep technology entrepreneurs. QTEC's lasting legacy is its foundational role in building the commercial base of the UK's quantum technology industry.
