About
Playground Global is an early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2015 by Andy Rubin, the creator of Android, along with Bruce Leak, Matt Hershenson, and Peter Barrett. Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, it manages over $1.2 billion in assets and focuses on deep tech across next-generation compute, automation, energy transition, and engineered biology. Fund III, closed at $410 million in December 2023, is the firm's current investment vehicle. Playground has made several quantum computing investments: PsiQuantum, the photonic quantum computing company, which it joined in a $1B raise in September 2025; Phasecraft, the quantum algorithms company, where it co-led a $34M Series B in September 2025; and Snowcap Compute, with a $23M seed in June 2025 for cryogenic compute for AI and quantum. The firm also backed Ideon Technologies, which works on quantum sensing for subsurface imaging. Playground combines hardware manufacturing experience with deep scientific knowledge, which helps it evaluate quantum hardware companies. Its general partners include Bruce Leak, Matt Hershenson, and Peter Barrett, and it invests across the Seed and Series A stages.
