About
HENSOLDT is a German defense electronics company applying quantum computing to radar sensing. It was awarded a contract by the DLR Quantum Computing Initiative (DLR QCI) for the QUA-SAR research project, which optimizes complex radar remote sensing scenarios using quantum computing. For this work, HENSOLDT collaborates with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) Microwaves and Radar Institute and with Tensor AI Solutions GmbH to integrate classical Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) methods with quantum technology concepts. The company established its Quantum Sensing and Technologies initiative in early 2024 to shape its direction in quantum technologies. The QUA-SAR project addresses radar resource management challenges that conventional computers cannot solve in real time, focusing on radar antenna optimization, broadcast signal design, ambiguity suppression, and efficient processing of large radar data volumes. Funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, the project aims to deliver decisive advantages in radar sensor performance.
