About
EPB Quantum is a quantum computing and networking initiative run by EPB, the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga, a municipal utility that operates one of the fastest fiber broadband networks in the US. The EPB Quantum network comprises 216 dedicated dark fibers and 10 quantum nodes, controlled by AliroNet software from Aliro Quantum, making Chattanooga the first US city with a commercially available quantum network. A $22 million deal with IonQ established the Quantum Computing Center, which gives enterprises access to IonQ's trapped-ion quantum computers over the fiber network. EPB Quantum Computing is planned to launch in early 2026. Projections point to 8,000 new jobs and $5 billion in community economic benefit by 2035, positioning Chattanooga as a national quantum hub. Update 2025-09-19: EPB Quantum named Janet Rehberg as President and CEO-elect. Source: https://quantumzeitgeist.com/epb-names-janet-rehberg-president-ceo-elect-as-david-wade-retires-2026/
