Delta g is a University of Birmingham spinout developing quantum gravity sensor technology. Its patented hourglass quantum gravity gradiometer uses stacked atom interferometers and rubidium atoms to enable underground mapping, critical infrastructure monitoring, and GPS-denied navigation. Applications include construction planning, resource exploration, detecting sinkholes before they form, and locating underground utilities. The company was founded by Prof. Mike Holynski, Jonathan Winch, and Dr. Andrew Lamb, and Tony Lowe serves as CEO. In March 2025, Delta g delivered its first next-generation sensor to the UK Department for Transport. Later in 2025 it won the Institute of Physics qBIG Prize for the world's first field-deployable quantum gravity gradiometer. In September 2025 the company secured a £4.6M oversubscribed seed round led by Serendipity Capital, with NSSIF and SCVC also taking part.
