In July 2025, IonQ completed its acquisition of Capella Space with the goal of building the world's first space-based quantum key distribution (QKD) network. Capella's satellite constellation and optical communications expertise now feed into IonQ's quantum networking strategy, extending quantum-secure communications to space infrastructure.
