Academia Sinica Quantum Computing Division, Taiwan's premier research institution, is developing superconducting quantum computers. It introduced Taiwan's first 5-qubit system in 2024 and in January 2026 unveiled a 20-qubit superconducting system with a coherence time of around 530 microseconds. In September 2025, Taiwan's first 8-inch quantum chip fabrication platform, QC-Fab, began trial operations. The research institute combines fundamental physics research with quantum hardware development. Academia Sinica's quantum program is training Taiwan's quantum workforce and developing the scientific foundations for Taiwan's quantum computing industry, working closely with semiconductor companies to integrate quantum technologies with existing manufacturing capabilities.
